A base of PAK has been targeted by Iranian drones near Kirkuk a day after the bases of Komala and KDPI were hit by missiles and drones.
A base of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) in Kirkuk Governerate, Northern Iraq, was targeted by Iranian drones on Tuesday, the head of the party Hussein Yazdanpanah told Rudaw.
Iran’s semiofficial news agency Tasnim confirmed the attack, saying a military base of PAK near the city of Kirkuk was “targeted by missiles and kamikaze drones.”
No casualties were reported after the attack, which followed a wave of drone and missile strikes a day before that targeted the bases of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) and Komala in the provinces of Erbil and Sulaimani in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
PAK, KDPI and Komala are among the Kurdish opposition parties which wage armed struggle against the Iranian administration.
KDPI official Mohammed Salih Qadri said that Iranian reconnaissance drones have been flying over the refugee camps in Koya where the families of fighters live.
“There is a huge threat against the Rojhelat refugee camps (…) We call on the Kurdistan Regional Government to urgently take action against these attacks,” he said.
While the Iraqi foreign ministry on Monday strongly condemned Iranian attacks on Kurdish forces in KRI, accusing both Tehran and Ankara of violating sovereignty through their “repeated” attacks in the region, a scheduled meeting to discuss Iranian and Turkish attacks in the Iraqi parliament was cancelled on Tuesday.
Tahran stepped up attacks on the camps of exiled Kurdish opposition groups in KRI after countrywide protests erupted following young Kurdish woman Mahsa (Jina) Amini’s death in police custody on 16 September.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) accuse the Kurdish parties of “infiltrating Iran to sow insecurity, to instigate riots, and to spread unrest.”
