Position Description: | The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Art seeks applications for a temporary Adjunct Instructor, Art History position for the fall 2021 semester. The successful candidate needs to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success, and be committed to maintaining an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Responsilbilities include teaching two courses per semester, including Survey Western Art 1400-Present, and Race and Representation in Art. Pending future appointment, additional Survey and upper-level art history courses possible as well as opportunities exist to develop courses in areas of specialization and/or thematic courses. Ideal areas of candidate’s specialization include, but are not limited to Asian, African, African American, Latin American, Native American, Islamic, Non-Western, and Ancient. Candidates who are passionate about diversifying the field of Art History are strongly encouraged to apply. |
Education Requirements: | Ph.D. in Art History required. ABD will be considered. |
Required Qualifications: | Required qualifications include teaching at college level as instructor of record; experience teaching Art Historical Surveys; demonstrated strong skills in classroom presentation; art historical and theoretical expertise with a global perspective (non-Western, issues of race, gender, etc.); and ability to incorporate multiple perspectives and issues into curriculum and classroom conversations. |
Desirable Qualifications: | Preference will be given to candidates who are actively involved in ongoing research; willingness to teach a wide range of courses of all levels and modalities; research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to UNI’s commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students; experience working with studio art faculty; demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion; and interest/experience in museum/gallery teaching. |
