Position Type: Academic

Location: Central London

This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week.

The Westminster story began in 1838, when Sir George Cayley opened the Polytechnic Institution at 309 Regent Street in London. In 1881, philanthropist Quintin Hogg bought the Royal Polytechnic Institution building and moved his Young Men’s Christian Institute into 309 Regent Street, which soon became the publicly funded Regent Street Polytechnic.

In 2013, The University of Westminster arrived at a major milestone, as we reached our 175th anniversary. We were proud to celebrate 175 years of world-leading research, pioneering teaching, and providing education for all, regardless of background or financial status.

Based in the heart of the capital’s political, media and financial services, Westminster Business School (WBS) has excellent industry links and global partnerships. Led by Professor Malcolm Kirkup, we offer a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, executive and short courses, preparing students to be responsible leaders and managers, able to support businesses in their role as world citizens.

You will be based at the University’s Marylebone site, opposite Baker Street Station, centrally located and immersed in London’s business community. We see London as very much part of our field of enquiry; it offers opportunities for staff and students to work closely with outside organisations in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

The post sits within the School of Organisations, Economy and Society, a constituent part of Westminster Business School. You will become part of a community of around 70 academic staff and 1500 students. The economics group consists of over 20 staff, including 3 Professors and 3 Readers, and is one of the most research active in the business school. We host the 15-year-old Centre for Employment Research (CER) as well as two further research groups: Global Economic Policy Group (GEPG) and Westminster Development Policy Network (WDPN).

We have a thriving portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Economics; we are planning to add two new undergraduate courses in September 2022. Therefore, this is an exciting time to join us as we extend our portfolio of courses and research activity.

We are looking to recruit a creative and innovative individual who can teach on our economics courses. You would also be expected to be research active in international economics, where a focus on international trade would be particularly welcome. As a Lecturer, the post holder will be expected to take on leadership roles at module level as determined by the needs of the School.

You will hold a post-graduate degree or professional qualification in a relevant area, will have teaching experience and hold a teaching qualification or HEA Fellowship, show evidence of the ability to produce research publications and have a good personal reputation and professional standing.
