The School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Aston is an ambitious, multidisciplinary School with an established reputation for excellence in teaching and research. The Politics and International Relations (PIR) Department is seeking to make an appointment at Senior Lecturer level in Politics or International Relations, preferably from 1 September 2021. Strong candidates in any sub-field of Politics or International Relations are encouraged to apply. We would be interested in strengthening our expertise in the politics of technology (e.g. cyber security, artificial intelligence, political impact and regulation of ICTs, etc.), of health and healthcare, or sustainability and climate change. A proven track record of working in and potentially leading multidisciplinary research projects in one of these areas would be important. It would also be helpful if the post holder were able to contribute to the teaching of British politics, social science research methods, and/or various sub-disciplines within International Relations.

You should have a completed doctorate in a relevant social science discipline and a strong track record of publications and research. You should also have experience of teaching in Politics and/or International Relations, and be able to contribute to the development of the teaching portfolio within the department. Evidence of success in administrative and management roles would be welcome.

We host the Aston Centre for Europe (ACE), an innovative inter-disciplinary hub for research, policy advice and teaching, which is co-directed by members of the PIR Department. ACE has a broad research agenda, and is by no means confined to a narrow view of European politics. We would welcome applications from candidates who share our view that it is important for scholars to engage outside academia, as well as within it.

Please contact Dr Balazs Szent-Ivanyi (Head of Department) with any queries about the role ([email protected] ).

Please note: Redeployees will be given priority consideration for vacancies

Further particulars and application forms are available in alternative formats on request i.e. large print, Braille, tape or CD Rom.

Aston University is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
