Job description
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in History for 1 year from 1 Sep 2021.  Applicants should have completed (or recently submitted) a PhD in History or related area of research, or have relevant professional experience. As a lecturer, you will carry out teaching, research and academic management within the Division of Social Sciences and contribute to academic leadership in the field of History. The successful candidate will be flexible and willing to teach on or contribute to a number of undergraduate modules including Black British History: Concepts and Debates, Legacies of the British Empire, Issues in Criminal Justice History, Public History, London: Local Histories/Global Communities. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate an approach to teaching and research that is inclusive of diverse experiences and an ability to work productively as part of a team.

As a research active academic, you will maintain a strong research and publication record and contribute to the research activities of the Division. You will show expertise in at least one of the areas mentioned above, demonstrated preferably by publications in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will exhibit an interest in research in areas relevant to one or more of our school-wide research groups: Crime and Justice, Gender and Sexualities, Sustainability, Space and Place, Tourism and Social Justice, Education and Social Justice, Critical Disability Studies.

About the division

The Division of Social Sciences comprises a team of research-active teaching staff dedicated to helping students to achieve their full potential and to realise their career aspirations informed by the division’s commitments to social justice and global responsibility. These commitments underpin all our degrees, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and contribute to the development of students’ academic skills and knowledge, as well as their engagement as active and critical citizens. All our undergraduate degrees encourage and support students to undertake a work placement and volunteering opportunities.

The Division of Social Sciences covers research and teaching across Criminology, History, International Relations, Politics and Sociology and while you may have a primary academic identity in History, you should be able to work with the division as a whole in matters like supervision of dissertations, organising research seminars, and occasionally contributing to lectures in modules for degrees other than History.  Our teaching and degrees are enriched by cross-disciplinarity and it is expected that the successful candidate will share this enthusiasm to teach across disciplines.
