Position Details

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Texas Christian University invites applications for a tenure track position in sociology at the assistant professor level beginning fall 2022. Seeking applicants with research and teaching specialization in medical sociology/sociology of health and illness. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is favorable: health disparities and health justice; intersectional, indigenous and/or postcolonial perspectives on health and illness; sexual and gender minority (SGM) health; aging and life course sociology, sociology of mental health; heath care education/training and social epidemiology. The successful candidate will work with departmental and college faculty on health, medicine and social justice curriculum development.

A Ph.D. in sociology is required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated success as a scholar and the capacity for excellence in the classroom. The teaching load is 3/2 and the salary and benefits are competitive.

This position is part of the TCU AddRan College of Liberal Arts diversity, equity and inclusion cluster hiring initiative that includes searches in history, political science, religion and sociology. The cluster hire serves to 1) recruit and retain a diverse community of scholars; 2) create a network and support system for a diverse community of scholars; 3) strengthen the colleges course offerings in race, ethnicity, and social justice that enhances a university-wide core curriculum with a DEI component; and 4) attract students from diverse backgrounds to major and minor in AddRan College of Liberal Arts disciplines.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is a collegial and productive department within a supportive and progressive college and academic community. The department seeks applicants who will contribute to and expand departmental programs and scholarship related to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.

School/College Description

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 11 departments (Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, and Spanish and Hispanic Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 15 Bachelor of Arts and six Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
