This is a full-time, tenure-track position with salary based on experience. This position is covered by the UNAC collective bargaining agreement. UA employees receive excellent benefits  including tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision coverage.

Minimum Qualifications 

The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

1. PhD in History or a related field
2. Ability to teach world history survey courses, historical methods/historiography courses,
and interdisciplinary social science courses
3. Ability to teach upper-level history courses in areas of applicant’s interest
and specialization, subject to student interest and needs
4. Ability to offer survey courses in the social sciences
5. Experience teaching undergraduate courses and demonstrated potential for undergraduate teaching excellence.

Desired Characteristics

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:

1. Ability to offer interdisciplinary courses in areas such as indigeneity and decolonization;
Pacific worlds; or world environmental, social, and cultural history
2. Ability to teach in interdisciplinary departments and programs
3. Ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary faculty from a variety of subjects
4. Experience working with first generation students, non-traditional students, Alaska Native
and American Indian students, Filipino and Pacific Islander students, and other diverse
student groups
5. Experience teaching in an online/distance or blended/hybrid learning environment
6. Have a developed research agenda
7. Potential to deliver effective undergraduate instruction in Southeast Alaska, the cultural
homeland of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples.
