Position description

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Washington and Lee University seeks an experienced colleague for a tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor of journalism with an emphasis on broadcast and digital journalism. The appointment begins July 1, 2026.

 

Washington and Lee University is a highly selective liberal arts college of about 1,800 undergraduate students located in Virginia’s scenic Shenandoah Valley. Our department offers majors for students in journalism and strategic communication.

 

Our new colleague will teach courses such as Producing for Live TV and the Web, Broadcast Announcing Practicum, and Introduction to Mass Communications, as well as specialty courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The standard course load for faculty is five courses per academic year.

Candidates must have a master’s degree in journalism, mass communications or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred but not required. Candidates must also have significant professional experience in broadcast journalism, in such roles as reporter, anchor, producer, or news director.
