The Department of History at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, ON invites applications for an indeterminate faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (UT-02 or UT-03) in the areas of Global History/Transnational History pre-Twentieth Century. The rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in History or War Studies from a recognized university at the time of hiring. The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate their ability to work at the university level in both French and English since the position is classified as bilingual imperative at the level of CCC/CCC. Evidence of language proficiency will be determined by tests administered by the Public Service Commission of Canada. The preferred start date is July 1, 2022.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate an active research field in one of Global History or Transnational history in a period prior to the 20th century. They must also demonstrate teaching experience in Global History or Transnational history in a period prior to the 20th century. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in either field at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Successful applicants should also be able to demonstrate an ability, or demonstrate the potential to develop the ability, to teach in the RMC Core Curriculum and History/Military and Strategic Studies programs, including, but not limited to courses such as HIE/F 270 HIE/F 271 (Introduction to Military History). Applicants must provide evidence of a strong teaching portfolio and a commitment to excellence in pedagogy.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active independent research program. Their commitment to research will be demonstrated by a strong peer-reviewed publication record measured by both quantity and/or rate of publication as well as success in accessing research funding.
In addition, the successful candidate will be required to make contributions through service to the department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a university environment is therefore essential.
