The Department of Sociology : The Department of Sociology at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for an appointment at the rank of Assistant professor on its Boca Raton Campus.

The successful applicant will have a research agenda that focuses on racial and ethnic relations, racial and ethnic inequities, and/or racial and ethnic justice. Priority consideration will be given to candidates whose work examines one or more of the following areas:

The social determinants of health and/or healthy aging among racial and ethnic minorities

The public health consequences of systemic racism

Racial inequities in healthcare access and/or healthcare systems

The causes and consequences of environmental racism

The effects of climate change and/or environmental degradation on minority communities

Minority community resilience and sustainable development in the face of climate change and/or environmental degradation

The successful applicant will have the ability to study racial inequity/justice with innovative methods—such as community-based learning and co-designed methodologies, deep or multi-site ethnography, mixed methods, advanced statistical analysis, biomarker collection and analysis, and/or big data analysis. They will also possess the ability to secure extramural funding for their research, develop community partnerships, and/or collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of scholars conducting research on racial equity and community sustainability initiatives in South Florida.

Sociology faculty typically teach a 3-2 course schedule—with course releases available for junior faculty—that contributes to the department’s Bachelor’s Degree program; Master’s Degree program; MS in Data Science; and the University’s Ph.D. program in Culture, Society, and Politics. Faculty also contribute to the University’s certificate programs in Global Studies; Peace Studies; Ethnic Studies; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; and Caribbean and Latin American Studies

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Sociology from an accredited institution. The successful candidate must have the Ph.D. completed by the start of the Fall 2022 semester.

We will consider applications from those who are currently ABD but, in order to be appointed at the rank of assistant professor, all requirements for the PhD must be completed before employment begins in August 2022.
