FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Journalism and Media Studies invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position beginning Fall 2022.
This appointment requires a graduate degree in Journalism or other area of media study with prior experience as a media professional in fields that include but are not limited to radio, television, film, and text-based media. Candidates should have a broad knowledge of media study and practice that includes writing, production, and on-air presentation, enabling them to teach across the three majors in the department as needed.
This appointment requires the ability to teach a curriculum that is reflective of the current state of media, a demonstrated track record of successful teaching at the university level, a demonstrated track record of media achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses across the three majors in the department as needed. These
three majors are:
- Film and Television Studies
- Journalism
- Media Communications Studies
Responsibilities include advising students and committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a
full-time Lecturer appointment. Evening and online teaching may be required. Faculty are expected to engage in student mentoring, academic assessment, and student recruitment and retention, and to participate in the origination of multimedia content produced by the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.
This is a non-research appointment that is teaching-intensive position. Lecturers teach 24 hours per year, which is normally 8 courses, or a 4-4 teaching load. This position requires a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student engagement, department collaboration, and professional media activity if applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in areas of expertise noted above, a demonstrated track record of successful teaching at the university level, a demonstrated track record of media achievement
COMPENSATION
Salaries are commensurate with education and experience, and are subject to the Professional Staff Congress-CUNY salary schedule: https://psc-cuny.org/content/salary-schedules-full-time-faculty-and-research-series.
