Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Sociology and Criminology in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor who specializes in race, criminology, and criminal justice. Salary is very competitive, with a typical teaching load of two courses per semester. Successful candidates will have a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology and Criminology and the African and African American Studies Program in Fulbright College. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment beginning in August 2022.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or related social science discipline is required
- We are seeking candidates with an active research agenda, evidence of scholarly productivity, a commitment to exceptional teaching, and those who can contribute to the Department of Sociology and Criminology graduate program
- Successful candidates’ scholarship will intersect with issues of racial injustices and racial disparities in crime, victimization, and responses to crime
- Successful candidates will be required to contribute to and teach in the interdisciplinary African and African American Studies Program (AAST), while preference will be given to those who contribute to the Department of Sociology and Criminology’s existing strengths in the areas of criminology, community, and inequality/stratification

About the Department of Sociology and Criminology: The Department is dynamic, productive, friendly, and student success-oriented unit in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Criminology, and an M.A. in Sociology, and affiliation with three research units: the Center for Social Research, Community and Family Institute, and the Terrorism Research Center. In addition to the African and African American Studies program, the Department participates in Latin American & Latino Studies and other interdisciplinary area studies programs. The Department is actively engaged with College and University DEI efforts, including the UA IDEALS Institute to enrich diversity and inclusion across campus and the state. The Department contributes to the larger university strategic mission that is part of eight priority areas that have been outlined in detail in the University’s guiding priorities.
About the African and African American Studies: The African and African American Studies (AAST) program promotes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the history, culture, and identity of Africans and African Americans. Students may pursue African and African American Studies as a second major alongside a primary major in Fulbright College.
