Turkey’s Islamist opposition Felicity Party has released a cartoon video depicting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a new graduate looking for a job.

The party shared the video with the message of “If Erdoğan was a youth today…” and the hashtag of #Empati (empathy) on its social account, in the face of the president’s denial that the youth are struggling to find a decent job that covers basic living expenses.

Earlier this week, Erdoğan attended an opening ceremony in Afyonkarahisar and argued that everyone who wants to find a job can find one. “Without shame, they are saying that there is ‘unemployment’ (in Turkey). What is this unemployment (talk) about? It is enough for people to ask for jobs. There are lots of jobs,” he said on Aug. 29.

The Felicity Party’s video criticizes Erdoğan over his remarks and starts by asking the question of “If Erdoğan was a youth who just graduated from the university, where and how would he find a job?”

The video, voiced by the party leader Temel Karamollaoğlu, continues as follows: “In which job would this youth be willing to work? How much salary would he accept? Mr. Erdoğan is saying at every opportunity, ‘I am an economist.’ Would this young economist be willing to work as a motorcycle courier or cashier? In this system that has makes people do everything in exchange for nothing, if Erdoğan had an opportunity, would he consider going abroad?”

“If he was robbed of his rights in an exam in which he ranked top, how would have he felt? If he heard the remarks of ‘Without shame, they are saying that there is ‘unemployment’ (in Turkey). What is this unemployment about? It is enough for people to ask for jobs. There are lots of jobs,’ how would have he felt? I am sure that he would have wanted to say a lot, but most probably would not have said due to the fear of being arrested and endured it in silence.”
