Armenia’s first president, Levon Ter-Petrosian, said that hard, painful decisions await Armenia. Agreements must be signed with Azerbaijan and Turkey, which no one will like, but there is one moment when there is no alternative. His remarks came on the air of the Public Television Company.

“If a document is not signed, if peace is not made with these two neighbors, we can no longer restore the 70-year-old realities of the Soviet Union. We have to build a state again,” he said.

He also commented on the anchor’s remark that according to a media publication, one of the participants in His Holiness’ meeting with the former presidents of Armenia and Artsakh offered to sign a surrender paper. “Congratulations, I don’t know who wrote that. I don’t interpret other people’s words. Let them say what they want,” the first president of Armenia said.

Commenting on his version of the statement on the meeting, which said they considered the issue of the day to be “establishing national unity and starting a constructive dialogue between the government and the opposition,” the first president said that if they were sitting down for dialogue, they should understand what they were sitting down for.

“My proposal was a dialogue with the authorities, I mean Nikol Pashinyan. Our whole society has no information about what is going on. Only one person, Nikol Pashinyan, has this information. Maybe he shares it with his inner circle. There may be two or three people who know the whole truth. They know what Russia, Turkey and the United States are offering. Whether it’s me, Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan or His Holiness, none of us has that information,” he said.
