İstanbul police seize 1.5 tons of marijuana smuggled via ship from Mexico

Over 1.5 tons of marijuana found inside a shipping container at İstanbul’s Ambarli port was seized, police said yesterday (October 11).

Acting on a tip-off, the narcotics department of Istanbul police launched an operation, and confiscated the illegal drugs smuggled via a ship which set sail from Mexico to İstanbul.

According to sources cited by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the operation culminated after two months of technical and physical follow-up, and the marijuana was hidden in bolts of cloth.

During the operation, five suspects, identified only by the initials H.S, C.A, M.U, Z.O and M.S, were arrested. (VK)
