The heated debate over the postponement of the elections continued on Monday, when the leader of the ultra-nationalists, Devlet Bahceli, intervened with his usual name-calling rhetoric after a week-long silence on the issue.
“In the midst of our suffering, the disgrace alliance polemicizing about the elections is paranoid, obsessive and delusional,” he said, referring to opposition reactions to AKP veteran Bulent Arinc’s proposal last week to postpone the elections on the grounds that it would be impossible to hold them on time due to the earthquake disaster in the country.
“Down with your politics, down with your sense of disgrace,” Bahceli continued.
“Relax, be patient, the Turkish nation will knock you down, by burying it in the ballot box soon,” he said.
He added:
“Those who pursue chaos, spread fake news, spread gossip, and strive for political cannibalism (sic), their humanity is suspect and open to debate.”
Bahceli also attributed the people who were rescued from the rubble to God’s blessings.
“Is not the rescue of our children and infants, especially after the earthquake in Kahramanmaras, a spiritual message, a meta-phasic (sic) symbol?” he asked.
