Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that the Turkish people “have not, and will not, give in to those trying to confine us to shallow waters.”
“Whoever tries to limit Turkey’s horizon to 782,000 square kilometres is, if not ignorant, is certainly a stranger to these lands,” he said at a military event celebrating “Victory Day,” which marks Turkey’s victory in the final battle of the Greek-Turkish War in 1922.
“How can we abandon Jerusalem, where our forebears ruled in peace, tranquilly, and prosperity for four centuries? How can we turn a blind eye to Palestine, where Ataturk battled to keep the enemy out? How can we close our ears to our Palestinian brothers’ screams while Israel has been perpetrating genocide against them for eleven months?” Erdogan asked, emphasizing that “our hearts beat with all our brothers and sisters in the Turkic republics.”
