The delegation from the DEM Party, which previously visited İmralı Island twice to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, is now heading to northern Iraq.
According to a written statement from the DEM Party, the delegation will meet with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani and Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Nechirvan Barzani in Erbil on Sunday, February 16. The next day, on Monday, February 17, they will travel to Sulaymaniyah to meet with Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Bafel Talabani, Qubad Talabani, and other PUK officials.
The delegation will include DEM Party MP for Van, Pervin Buldan, Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Co-Chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Keskin Bayındır, members of the Foreign Relations Commission, and other party officials.
The statement noted that during these visits, the delegation would share details of the meetings held on İmralı and gather views, suggestions, and opinions from the relevant parties, which will later be conveyed to Abdullah Öcalan.
It was also recalled that the delegation had previously met with political parties represented in the Turkish Parliament, as well as imprisoned politicians such as Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, and Leyla Güven, conveying their views and suggestions to Öcalan.
Meanwhile, the DEM Party stated that it has been informing the public through large-scale meetings and rallies held in 42 different locations, gathering people’s opinions, concerns, and expectations, which have been reported to the İmralı delegation.
The İmralı delegation previously visited İmralı Island on December 28 and January 22 for meetings with Öcalan. Last week, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan announced that “Abdullah Öcalan is preparing to make a historic call in the coming days for a resolution to the Kurdish issue.”
The process leading to the DEM Party delegation’s meetings with Öcalan began with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli’s call in October for Öcalan to facilitate disarmament and the dissolution of the PKK.
