The Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies program at Wesleyan University seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor beginning July 2022, with substantive research and teaching interests in the areas of Race, Gender and Sexuality and/or Transnational and Global Feminisms, broadly construed. Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary program offering an undergraduate major in the study of gender and sexuality as categories of analysis and experience within the broad matrices of race, class, ethnicity, and nation. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that values both scholarship and teaching very highly, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, and offers competitive salaries and benefits.
The Assistant Professor will teach core courses required for the major, including an introductory level Gateway course in gender and sexuality studies and/or Feminist Theories, as well as other courses in their area of specialization, and will carry a 2/2 teaching load. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students, carrying on a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in women’s and gender studies, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Literature, Philosophy, Media Studies, relevant area studies, or other relevant academic discipline, either in hand or near completion (with expectation that PhD will be in hand at time of appointment, though a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. within one year of hire).
