Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University. The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a two-year, non-tenure earning, Post-Doctoral position in cultural anthropology for the 2022-2023 academic year.
This position is part of a cluster of new hires whose research interests are broadly or thematically related to issues of Crisis, Resistance, Sustainability, and Resilience. Issues such as climate change, inequality, new technological systems, ethno-nationalism, and political-economic competition, among other dynamics, drive the predominant global challenges.
We are searching for scholars whose work addresses the “human side” of these challenges:
-on human adaptations to crises and catastrophes (from hurricanes, to increasing global temperatures and sea level rise, to war, conquest, and political struggle) and/or
-on human adaptations that move towards (or provide evidence for) sustainable lifeways (e.g., eco villages, new technologies) and resilient communities.
Geographic area and specialization are open, but research that addresses issues of the emergence of transnational disruptive movements, new technologies and human transformation (e.g., AI, genetic therapies, human-machine interface), sustainable communities, or other relevant areas is preferred.
A successful candidate will be committed to participating in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and demonstrate active research potential.
The teaching load is 4 courses (2/2) during the academic year. The candidate should be prepared to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels associated with their specialization and geographic region.

In a continuing effort to enrich its academic environment and provide equal educational and employment opportunities, the department actively encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups in higher education. Of special interest are candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for historically marginalized peoples.
