Summary Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This posting is to fill one full-time, tenure track position teaching a full range of economics courses within the economics department. Faculty position/s may require work to be performed during evenings and/or weekends.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Prepare and deliver instruction to undergraduate students on topics such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, and statistics for business and economics

Create course materials, such as syllabi, lectures, homework, quizzes, exams, handouts, etc.

Evaluate and grade students’ classwork, assignments, exams, and papers

Keep abreast of developments in economics by reading current literature, studying relevant economic and political developments, monitoring current economic statistics and trends, and participating in professional conferences.

Teach courses during evenings, weekends, and through distance education if required

Maintain student attendance, grades, and other required records

Work collegially with the faculty and staff of the division to advance student success

Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours

Participate and collaborate in department, and division meetings

Assist in curriculum development, updates, and revisions

Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies and academic issues

Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, and general institutional needs

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Commitment to student learning in a framework of equity and inclusion

Ability to teach students pursuing majors in economics and business, engineering, as well as students fulfilling general education requirements in economics, as assigned

Knowledge of a variety of successful teaching techniques

An understanding of current issues, data, and trends in economics and the ability to communicate those ideas to a variety of levels and interests.

Commitment to support gender and ethnically diverse students and students with disabilities enrolled in economics courses

Ability to use teaching methods that engage all students actively in their own learning and encourage them to learn problem solving skills

Ability to teach in both in-person and distance education environments

Ability to adapt teaching methodology to meet the needs of an ethnically and culturally diverse group of students and students with disabilities

Willingness to work with both faculty and staff in a spirit of collegiality at department, division, college, and District levels

Ability to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one’s own pedagogy and modify techniques to engage students

A familiarity with and willingness to expand the use of computer-based technology appropriate to the field of economics

Commitment to the SBCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum

Commitment to the goals and ideals of the teaching profession and enthusiasm for the mission of the community college

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in economics OR Bachelor’s in economics AND Master’s in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance, or political science OR the equivalent.

Experience that indicates a sensitivity to, and an understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel.

DESIRED QUALIFICATION/S

A minimum of one full academic year experience teaching higher level education

A minimum of one full academic year experience teaching principles of macroeconomics and microeconomics.
