Call for applications for Lecturer positions in MA Programme in Politics and Security

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation, established in 2002 by the Kyrgyz Government and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE Academy promotes the principles and values of the OSCE through post-graduate education, professional trainings, research and intellectual exchange. Its demanding MA Programmes in the fields of “Economic Governance and Development” and “Politics and Security (Central Asia)” on a highly competitive basis enrol a total of up to 60 young professionals per year, from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is looking for a Lecturer for the following courses in its MA in Politics and Security programme:

WINTER SEMESTER: January – April, 2022

  • History of Political Thoughts, 4 credits

The course ‘History of Political Thought’ is a required course of the MA Politics and Security programme. It is meant to be a survey course of the discipline of political theory and, typically, presents the history of political ideas and related philosophical concepts. In this surveying exercise it is important to relate concepts and ideas of political order, of state and state & society, of the individual and the political, of government and political conflict and of political progress to the context of political developments in the wider region of Central Asia.

The aim of the courses is to provide a graduate level survey of these subjects introducing students to main theories and methodological approaches. The courses are expected to be taught on advanced level involving lectures, seminars, research assignments, and individual student mentoring. The specific course topics as well as the course design should be discussed with the Head of the Department of Graduate Education of the OSCE Academy.

Candidates for this position should meet the following requirements:

  • PhD degree in Political Science, International Relations, or a related field
  • Record of teaching excellence and service
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

The OSCE Academy will provide/cover:

  • 1100 – 1300 EUR / credit as gross salary. Final amount depending on interview results
  • Office space and computer, as well as access to all facilities of the OSCE Academy

NOTE: The Academy will not cover transport, accommodation, health insurance and expenses of family members. The Academy, however, assists with all issues related to travelling to Bishkek, including non-financial visa and work permit support, and finding housing in the city.
