About the position

La Trobe University’s Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy seeks to appoint an excellent early career academic to a 2.5 year, fixed term position as a Lecturer in International Relations. This role encompasses teaching, research and service. The successful applicant will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across our International Relations and Politics program, including teaching cores and elective subjects in the new Bachelor of Global Studies, Master of International Relations, and Bachelor of Arts (International Studies and Politics majors).

The successful applicant will pursue an active scholarly research agenda in alignment with the Department and University’s Research Strategy, and will supervise honours and postgraduate research students. The department would like to build on its existing expertise in security/conflict studies, but also encourages strong candidates from other subfields of International Relations to apply. Area studies expertise in Asia, the Middle East or North America would also be looked upon favourably.

An academic at Level B is expected to develop curriculum, teach and undertake research or other scholarly work relevant to the development of their discipline or professional field.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • PhD in International Relations or a cognate field.
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching and curriculum development based on disciplinary expertise in International Relations or Politics.
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach across a range of areas within the disciplines of International Relations and Politics.
  • Evidence of high quality and/or high impact research conducted and published or otherwise disseminated, relative to opportunity.
  • Evidence of the ability to work as a member of a team in a cooperative and collegial manner.
  • Capacity to successfully supervise honours and postgraduate students.
