Etyen Mahçupyan, a former advisor to former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, has said former ministers of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) could establish a new party after the local elections, the Arti Gerçek news website reported on Wednesday.
“Some figures who served as ministers in the AKP [governments] are in a new formation,” Mahçupyan said in an interview on RS FM radio station.
The former advisor said if the AKP loses mayoral elections in important places, these individuals would take action to establish a new party.
Turkey will hold local elections on March 31.
“People are searching [for a new party] now, and it is impossible for that not to happen because Turkey is not being administered well. Everyone sees this,” Mahçupyan said.
The AKP, which came to power in 2002, has been ruling the country as a single party government since then. Over the past years, there has been much talk about the prospect of the establishment of a new party among the AKP ranks, but this has never materialized.
