Greek Deputy Defense Minister Nikos Hardalias said their armed forces are ready for any scenario, including the worst possible one, amid Turkish threats of a military attack into the neighboring country.

“On our part, we are not concerned on whether the escalation of this attitude, especially at the level of rhetoric, is related to internal political expediencies of the Turkish government in view of elections. Nor do we try to guess what is hidden behind each new display of anti-Greek impudence on the opposite side of the Aegean. Instead, we steadily continue our planning and always are ready for any scenario, including the worst possible one,” Hardalias told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) on Wednesda, Geek City Times reported.

Emphasizing that Ankara’s stance remains deeply “problematic”, Hardalias said they observe “unprecedented revisionism and challenges, combined with dangerous practices on the ground.”

The tensions between Ankara and Athens who have long been at odds over a string of issues, have build up lately over the status of the Eastern Aegean islands, where Turkey blames Greece for “illegally” militarizing them in violation of international treaties.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in December threatened Athens with a missile attack, should it does not “stay calm”.

“Utterly” condemning Erdogan, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in response accused Turkey of “North-Korean style attitudes”.
