Despite the management problems over search and rescue efforts still strongly voiced across Turkey’s ten provinces hit by the earthquakes, Turkish President Recep Erdogan said the government has seized control of the situation.

“Although we had some difficulties on the first day, we seized control on the second day,” Erdogan said on Wednesday during a visit to Kahramanmaras, the epicenter of both earthquakes.

On the third day the disaster, Erdogan is holding a visit to the earthquake zone in southern part of the country.

Stating that they will also overcome the problems experienced at airports and on the roads, “Today we are good, tomorrow we will be even better,” Erdogan said.

Calling on the earthquake victims not to worry, Erdogan said they will never let them stay on the streets.

“Currently, we have held meetings with hotels in regions such as Antalya, Alanya, Mersin. If there are those who want to stay in hotels, we are ready to settle them. We have reached a very serious room capacity,” he said.

Following two massive earthquakes that hit Turkey’s ten provinces on Monday, the vast majority of the victims of the disaster are spending nights outside, under severe winter conditions.

According to official data, at least 6,444 buildings were completely destroyed, while around 10,000 more were reported to be damaged. A population of more than 13 million was affected by the earthquakes.

Erdogan said they are aiming to realize mass housing projects in ten provinces within a year.

“Currently, we have planned to deliver 10,000 lira ($530) to each of our affected families,” he added.
