Only 12.7% of Turkish children eat meat, chicken or fish daily

According to the “Turkey Children Survey 2022” conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), 62.4% of children in Turkey consume grain-based foods such as bread or pasta daily, while only 12.7% of them consume meat, chicken, or fish every day.

The survey was conducted between October 10th and December 16th, 2022, and a sample of 9,010 households with at least one child aged between 0 and 17 years old was chosen for the study.

The survey revealed that 34% of children in Turkey have their own room, while 29.4% of children who do not have their own room share a room with another household member for sleeping purposes. Additionally, 36.6% of children who do not have their own room share a room with two or more household members.

The survey also examined the percentage of children who engage in physical activity. It was found that 14.1% of children aged between 4 and 17 engage in walking or running, 4% of them ride bicycles, 7.6% play soccer, 1.8% play volleyball, 1.5% play basketball, and 5.8% engage in other sports.

The survey also revealed that 97.5% of children aged between 6 and 17 attend school, while 2.5% of them do not attend school. Additionally, the survey found that 93.4% of children aged between 6 and 17 attend public schools, while 6.6% of them attend private schools.
