The Future Party, DEVA Party, and Felicity Party have reached the final stage in their efforts to form a unified parliamentary group in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The three parties have agreed to merge under a unified party framework. An application for the party’s establishment is expected to be submitted to the Ministry of Interior on Friday.
It has been reported that the unified party’s logo has been finalized and that significant agreement has been reached on its name.
The proposed names include “Democracy for Unity,” “Unity for Turkey,” and “New Path Party.” However, according to insider information, the name “New Path Party” has gained the most traction.
Resignations in Reaction to the Unified Party
While the three parties have reportedly reached an agreement on the unified party, there have been successive resignations in the DEVA Party following the Future Party.
Last month, the resignation of Ankara MP Nedim Yamalı caused the parliamentary group, formed under the Felicity Party with the participation of the Future Party, to dissolve. The group was later re-established with the inclusion of DEVA Party members Mehmet Emin Ekmen and Ertuğrul Kaya.
The formation of the unified party has also triggered resignations from the DEVA Party. Istanbul MP Mustafa Yeneroğlu resigned on December 26, criticizing his party for being “in a state of inertia.”
Balıkesir MP Burak Dalgın also announced his departure on Tuesday, stating, “The DEVA Party is taking a different path within a unified framework.”
Dalgın was followed by former State Minister Selma Aliye Kavaf, who resigned on Wednesday, stating that she did not agree with the decision to form a unified party.
Following these resignations, the official number of DEVA Party MPs has dropped to 10.
If there are no further resignations before the establishment of the unified party, the new parliamentary group is expected to consist of 30 members.
