It has been reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw American troops from Syria.
According to a report by Israel’s public broadcaster Kan, the U.S. administration has informed Israel about the withdrawal from Syria.
The report stated, “White House officials conveyed the message to Israel that President Donald Trump intends to pull thousands of U.S. troops out of Syria.”
The report in the Israeli media continued with the following:
“The withdrawal of U.S. forces is causing significant concerns and anxiety in Israel. This move is expected to also affect the Kurdish minority in Syria.”
Approximately 2,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Syria.
The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced in December that the number of U.S. soldiers in Syria was around 2,000.
American forces in the region are working alongside SDF forces, whose main backbone is the YPG, closely affiliated with the PKK.
