Position description

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Global Enrollment and Recruitment, the Director of Recruitment and Special Programs will create, implement, lead, and manage the personnel, marketing, recruiting and admissions process for all Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) mid-career and doctoral programs, including the Masters in International Public Policy (MIPP), the Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP), the Doctor of International Affairs (DIA), the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and the Public Service Fellows and Scholars (PSFS) program. In addition, this individual serves as the primary admissions liaison with military partners for the Strategic Thinkers Program (STP), the Schriever-West Space Force Program, the Army’s Advanced Civil Schooling (ACS) Program, and with our dual-degree partners at KDI School of Public Policy and Management in Seoul, Korea.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops the strategic and operational plans for two mid-career master’s degrees, two doctoral degrees, and the Public Service Fellows & Scholars program with quantifiable goals for revenue and increased participation.
  • Establishes policies and procedures, and manages the budget for the mid-career, doctoral and special programs recruitment and outreach unit of the admissions department.
  • Develops strategies to increase diversity in the participation of national and international recruitment as it relates to Johns Hopkins SAIS mid-career, doctoral and special programs.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of admissions and/or recruitment programs and provide recommendations for recruitment strategies.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Global Enrollment and Recruitment, the Office of Marketing, Communications and Strategic Initiatives departments and mid-career and doctoral program directors, develop and administer an annual marketing, advertising and recruiting plan.
  • Schedule and manage candidate recruitment, yield events (e.g. calling campaigns) and targeted market outreach activities.
  • Manage the admissions process throughout the recruiting funnel from initial candidate inquiry to acceptance, including organizing and maintaining applicant communications, scheduling and conducting applicant interviews, assessing (with program directors) candidate qualifications for admission to the programs and fellowship and scholarship awards for admitted applicants.
  • Assist in the design, planning and implementation of virtual and on campus events (e.g. information sessions, class visitations)
  • Develop and maintain program marketing and recruiting metrics and statistics; evaluate effectiveness of marketing and recruiting program elements; recommend recruitment strategies.
  • Monitor the competitive environment for mid-career and doctoral programs, both locally and industry-wide, including competitive strategies, best practices and trends.
  • Represent Johns Hopkins SAIS within the international relations community domestically and internationally and at professional organizations or associations, serving on committees as required.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Marketing, Communications and Strategic Initiatives, and program directors to ensure that websites, social media, and publications meet University standards and effectively and efficiently utilize University web/publishing resources.
  • Create and design customized messaging and recruitment materials for targeted groups such as Foreign Area Officers, Strategic Thinkers and Schreiver-West Space Force applicants
  • Interface with the Third-Party Payer Office, SEAMSAO, and Veterans Affairs to ensure student needs are met and that our strategic military partners have their concerns addressed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Advanced skills to develop, implement, and manage strategic recruitment plans to attract and enroll top candidates to SAIS mid-career, doctoral and special programs.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of student recruiting and admissions requirements for mid-career and doctoral programs in international affairs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international relations programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs.
  • Preference for candidate with a strong customer service orientation, excellent attention to details and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, public relations, public speaking, oral and written communication skills, including background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with relevant global institutions, including within the U.S. government, foreign embassies, international organizations, the private sector, and non-governmental/not-for-profit organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five years related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum 7 years admissions, business and/or marketing related experience in progressively responsible positions.
