The Division is responsible for the dual mandate of accelerating innovation and building climate innovation ecosystems to promote low-carbon and climate-resilient industrialization; and planning, developing and implementing interventions to facilitate compliance with the Montreal Protocol and, in particular, its Kigali Amendment and to support countries in achieving their NDCs. In addition, the Division is responsible, in close collaboration with other relevant entities of the Organization, for facilitating the transfer of innovative low-carbon and climate adaptation solutions and building markets to ensure their widespread use by industry and local communities, thereby contributing to climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience in recipient countries. It collaborates closely on relevant and converging issues with TCS/CEG, TCS/ECA and IET/CTP.
Responsibilities
- Compiling general background information from readily available sources, on economic and social factors for an assigned sector, area, country or programme or project: designing and drafting supporting flow charts, schedules, graphs and tables; coordinating the collection and verification of documents, actions and data with substantive or support units assembling and editing basic data required for planning and negotiation, in formats dictated by agenda or supervisor’s instructions, checking project and A2D Facility-wide documents for clarity, consistency and completeness;
- Describing progress at the Facility-level, the thematic-level and individual supported project-level, investigating designated activities, discussing findings with the rest of the A2D Facility team to identify implications for the work of the A2D Facility, discussing rationale and context of activities, considering the alternative methods for Facility-level, thematic-level and individual project-level design, management, problem identification and problem resolution;
- Facilitating knowledge management by maintaining institutional memories or other documentation systems to record Facility-level, thematic-level and individual project-level history and ongoing activities, working closely with the rest of the A2D Facility team;
- Leading and coordinating monitoring exercises at the Facility-level, thematic-level and individual project-level related to implementation, retrieving substantive information on status of projects, outcomes, outputs, key performance indicators (KPIs), risks, etc. from the SAP Portfolio and Project Management (PPM) module;
- Ensuring that the donor’s annual “Logframe” milestones are met for the A2D Facility as a whole, working closely with the thematic leads in the A2D Facility team, aggregating data and completing the “Logframe” annually, ensuring that data are robust and meet the requirements of the donor, and lead these discussions in quarterly progress update meetings with the donor, including coordinating the preparation of briefings and slides;
- Supporting the organization of relevant events and outreach activities to enhance the visibility of the A2D Facility’s activities and results, working closely with the rest of the A2D Facility team, including supporting logistics, briefing preparation, slides preparation and coordination with relevant internal and external stakeholders and offices;
- Developing a strong understanding of the wider landscape on initiatives, workstreams and other funding streams related to climate innovation in developing country contexts to facilitate complementarity, rather than overlap, and join-up across international organisations, governments and wider stakeholders on addressing clean energy transitions challenges in developing country contexts, and understanding the donor priorities in the future development of the A2D Facility;
- Drafting reports, drafting briefings, preparing slides, coordinating with relevant offices, undertaking ad-hoc assignments and research activities, as required, and reviewing and advising on proposals submitted into call-for-proposals.
- Arranging briefings, tours, and related activities for visitors, missions, travel, events and fellowship holders, supporting the organization of the logistics for the work of the A2D Facility team, working closely with the rest of the A2D Facility team;
- Perform any other duties and assignments as requested by the A2D Facility Manager, Division Chief or Managing Director.
Education:
Advanced university degree in monitoring, reporting and evaluation, communications and events, energy and climate analysis, international relations or other relevant field.
Experience:
- At least three (3) years of professional experience in technical cooperation project management or portfolio project management, with emphasis on project monitoring, reporting and communications, including some exposure at the international level, is required.
- Ability to research and analyze information independently and recommend solutions is required.
- Ability to write in a clear and concise manner is required.
- Ability to work effectively in multi-cultural teams is desirable.
- Experience in evaluating the needs, conditions and problems in developing countries, is desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
