Position Information

Banksia Road Public School is located in Greenacre and has an enrolment of 522 students from 24 cultural backgrounds. Many of our students come from non-English speaking backgrounds, with Arabic being the dominant language group.

The school has a strong community focus and promotes core values such as respect, resilience, empathy, honesty, and collaboration, guided by our Portrait of a Graduate framework.

Our support unit caters for students with additional learning needs from Kindergarten to Year 6. It provides a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every student is known, valued, and supported to reach their potential. The support unit is fully integrated into the school community and engages students in meaningful, differentiated learning experiences tailored to individual needs.

Instructional leadership is a key focus at Banksia Road, with teachers working collaboratively with families and specialists to deliver evidence-based programs.

The school enjoys strong support from its parent community, including an active P&C and a dedicated Community Hub, which offers ongoing support and programs for families.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Autism and Mild Intellectual Disabilities

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in delivering high-quality literacy and numeracy programs that are explicitly differentiated to meet the diverse learning needs of students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.

Proven ability to design, implement and evaluate Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLaSPs) using data-informed practice and evidence-based interventions.

Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and deep understanding of disability and additional needs, including experience teaching and supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, emotional and behavioural challenges and complex communication needs.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents/carers and external agencies to support student wellbeing, learning and engagement.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
