TUJ faculty contracts are renewable. In accordance with university standards and Japanese law, successful faculty are eligible for a continuing contract after five years.

Undergraduate Program at TUJ invites applications for a student-centered full-time faculty member to start in the Fall, 2026.

TUJ offers undergraduate programs to a broad mix of over 3,300 Japanese and non-Japanese degree-seeking students who will earn their degrees from Temple University through the Japan campus. Every semester, additional undergraduate students from Temple’s main campus and other universities converge on our campus for a short-term study abroad experience.

In one of the most dynamic cities in the world, we offer twelve full undergraduate majors ranging from Art to International Business to Psychological Studies. Our faculty and staff are international, with nearly 100 full-time faculty joined by experienced administrators and many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer semester.

Overview of Positions

TUJ is hiring a full-time Open Rank position, specializing in International Affairs and Political Science. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to TUJ KYOTO’s course offerings toward major programs in International Affairs and Political Science. The successful candidate will be a member of their respective departments at TUJ and have colleagues at the Tokyo campus. There may also be opportunities to teach at the Tokyo campus.

This position will start in the Fall of 2026. Applicants should hold a doctorate degree in Political Science or a related field at the time of employment. The program is looking for candidates who have a strong teaching and research background in some combination of international security, comparative international politics, and research methods. Candidates with the ability to teach a range of courses are preferred. The geographical scope of teaching and research is open.

Faculty members at TUJ can teach a diverse student body from around the world. Candidates may be asked to teach traditional in-person, online, or Hyflex classes. The successful candidate will collaborate with the division chair on the yearly course offerings.

Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD in Political Science or a related field• Teaching experience at the university level, preferably teaching undergraduate students for a U.S. institution• A record of scholarly publications and presentations, and/or ongoing research agenda• Fluency in English is required, as instruction will be conducted in English
