Job Title: University Student Teacher Supervisor – Special Education and Art Education

Job Description Summary:

Oakland University is hiring part time University Supervisors for K-12 art education and K-12 special education programs to work with teacher candidates during their student teaching internship. We are seeking individuals dedicated to true collaboration with faculty as we implement a clinically rich, practice-based teacher preparation program. As we create more powerful experiences for our teaching interns with a commitment to the ideals of diversity, equity and inclusion, we are hiring those individuals interested in accepting this powerful role in our collective work as teacher educators.

Work includes in-person observations of student teachers in schools, providing constructive feedback to student teachers, attendance at intern seminars, and clear communication with school and university personnel. Supervisors are assigned a caseload of students.

The position is for one semester. Art Education supervision occurs in both the fall and winter semesters. Special Education supervision occurs in the winter semester.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following background:

  • Experience coaching/mentoring new or aspiring teachers
  • Experience with urban and/or underserved populations
  • Experience with a university-based teacher preparation program
  • Experience with Core Teaching Practices Core Teaching Practices – Michigan Department of Education

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Teacher certification in either Art Education or Special Education (Specific Learning Disabilities or Emotional Impairment)
  • 5 years teaching experience in either Art Education or Special Education (Specific Learning Disabilities or Emotional Impairment)
  • Master’s degree in educational field
  • Prior experience coaching/mentoring teachers
  • Competency with digital tools (e.g. Google, Moodle, Video-conferencing) for communication, coaching/mentoring, and documentation
  • Ability and willingness to observe student interns in-person within an hour of the Oakland University campus in Rochester, Michigan or the Oakland University Macomb campus during the K-12 school day.

Hiring is as needed for fall 2025 and winter 2026.
