Position description

The People and Culture Division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a Recruiter to lead key global recruitment processes. This is a fixed-term, full-time position for six (6) months with the possibility of extension dependent upon organizational needs and budget at the end of the term. The Recruiter will be based within commuting distance of HRW’s New York or Washington DC offices. This position reports to the Associate Director of Talent Acquisition and Global Mobility, based in New York.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead recruitment processes for assigned business units by crafting job descriptions, setting recruitment processes and timelines with hiring teams, posting jobs on Greenhouse and external job boards, reviewing candidates, scheduling interviews, and preparing offers;
  1. Liaise effectively with colleagues on the People and Culture team, within Operations, and across the organization to ensure effective coordination of recruitment activities;
  1. Craft compelling job descriptions and post for vacancies, ensuring that responsibilities are in line with seniority level;
  1. Guide hiring managers and hiring teams through the recruitment process, including by conducting check-ins and advising on outreach strategy and interview processes;
  1. Implement processes to mitigate unconscious bias in our candidate assessment process, facilitate diverse and robust candidate pools, and help to ensure an inclusive and positive candidate experience;
  1. Identify sources to strengthen candidate pools for open positions;
  1. Review applications, set up interviews, and provide guidance on final selection as needed;
  1. Train staff on recruitment processes and systems, and contribute to the creation and distribution of virtual trainings on recruitment-related topics;
  1. Track recruitment progress and assist the Associate Director with providing periodic updates to organizational leadership about recruitment process and open vacancies;
  1. Operate in compliance with organizational policies and protocols; and
  1. Perform other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience in human resources or a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum five years of relevant experience, particularly recruiting in non-profit settings, is preferred.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization.
  1. Highly organized and detail oriented and ability to execute projects with minimal guidance.
  1. Solid judgment, discretion, and critical thinking skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to think proactively and holistically.
  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in another language is desirable.
  1. Experience working with Applicant Tracking Systems; experience with Greenhouse is a plus.
  1. Strong computer knowledge including Windows and MS Office applications.
  1. Commitment to HRW’s mission and human rights values.

Other: Applicants for this position must possess valid US work authorization.

Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers comprehensive compensation and benefits. The salary range for this position is USD 80,000 – 88,000.
