Position Summary

The Mechanical Estimator participates in all aspects of the bid & estimating process. The Mechanical Estimator will perform quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping & biddings. Project types will vary from Healthcare, Central Plant, K-12, Higher Education & Commercial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform quantity take-offs, and pricing of mechanical, plumbing, and process piping estimates.
  • Develop and document logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities, participate in estimate review and assist with final assembly of estimate
  • Solicit subcontractors during the bidding process and organize information post-bid for future reference.
  • Communicate with project leads to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements.
  • Conduct reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities and recommendations and to identify changes in work scope.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal clients, subcontractors & vendors
  • Prepare scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers and coordinate scopes of work across disciplines
  • Maintain current, working knowledge of MEP codes. Familiar with sheet metal, hydronic, refrigeration & plumbing systems.
  • Develops and documents assumptions during estimating activities and applies these assumptions to takeoff tasks. Compiles final list of assumptions and clarifications for inclusion with the estimate to the owner.
  • Assist the Project team, in developing a detailed set of General Conditions including a project schedule indicating the timeline of staff, equipment, and assets.
  • Aids field with change order pricing when needed.
  • Attends job walks, takes notes and photos for accurate scope of work.
  • Ability to understand and coordinate mechanical systems with other building trades.
  • Coordinate with the Procurement Manager to assist with procurement of equipment, subcontractors, and commodities.

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and coordinate mechanical systems with other trades.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering OR 5 years of equivalent estimating experience.
  • General knowledge of construction principles, processes, and contractual delivery methods (negotiated/hard bids, GMP processes).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Winest, etc.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with an emphasis on multi-tasking.
