Description:

The Education
Reporter is responsible for covering a multitude of topics related to K-12
and higher education in Colorado, notably policy, public safety, budgeting and
taxpayer spending in school districts, colleges and universities, and government
by school boards and the Board of Regents. This reporter will also handle
breaking news, features and general assignments as assigned. 

A key component of this job is to regularly produce enterprise
and feature stories, including in-depth analysis and investigative reporting.
Your priority will be pursuing accountability journalism.

This position is physically based in Denver. Candidates from
out of state must be willing to relocate to metro Denver.   

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Write daily stories focused on education
    and policy

  • Produce enterprise stories about education
    and other issues, as assigned

  • Pursue
    human-interest feature stories, as assigned

  • Pursue breaking
    news stories 

  • Convey news and
    tell stories using multiple tools, including social media, photos and
    video 

  • Develop a wide
    range of sources  

  • Collaborate and
    maintain strong working relationships with staff at The Denver Gazette, Colorado
    Politics and the Colorado Springs Gazette  

  • Coordinate with
    colleagues on content, visual, digital and audience operations to present
    and promote stories  

  • Ensure that
    journalism standards are followed, notably accuracy and objectivity  

  • Consistently meet
    deadlines 

  • Serve as liaison
    for customers, sources and other community members

 Minimum
Education & Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or mass communications. Minimum
    of three to five years of experience at a daily newspaper preferred.
