The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Russian Ambassador in Ankara over military attacks in Syria’s Idlib province, pro-government Akit newspaper reported.
Alexei Yerkov was summoned by the Turkish foreign ministry to discuss Turkey’s concerns over a recent attack in the de-escalation zone of Idlib, it said.
On Tuesday, Russian jets hit a gas facility, a cement factory and towns and cities in the Idlib region near the border while Syrian army artillery killed seven civilians and injured 14 medics in an attack on a hospital in the region, according to rebel sources and witnesses.
Russian media outlets reported that Russian forces only targeted oil tankers.
Meanwhile, the Turkish defence ministry reported last week that civilian settlements and fuel tankers’ in the districts of Jarablus and Al-Bab in northern Syria were targeted by ballistic missiles belonging to Syrian regime forces.
Ankara and Moscow last year agreed a ceasefire in Idlib, ending the heaviest fighting around the region in years that displaced millions of people.
Since then, Russia and Turkey Ankara have held several joint military patrols in the region under the deal.
