Opportunity Green

Position description

Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change. We are now looking for a new colleague to support our EU advocacy work in Brussels, where we opened an office earlier in 2025.

What’s the role?

The role is an EU Advocacy Manager in our newly formed EU team. The EU Advocacy Manager will use their EU policy expertise to work in support of the Director of EU Policy, and collaborate closely with colleagues in London and Dublin, helping increase our outreach with EU decision makers, focusing in particular on aviation, maritime, and e-fuels. You will primarily support our work on the SASHA Coalition but may also be required to input more broadly on Opportunity Green’s priorities where these are EU-facing.

With key legislative files upcoming like the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan, the Ports and Maritime Industrial Strategies, and the ETS, among others, our EU team is looking to better monitor decision-making processes and stakeholders, continue to build the EU profile of the SASHA Coalition, and reach out and influence as widely as possible within the EU bubble, namely with different Commission DGs, the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the Permanent Representations.

You will work to identify opportunities with the different European Institutions, monitoring the relevant files, reading and summarising reports and identifying the relevance to our position. You are comfortable with data and can do reliable “back of the envelope” maths to help support positions and briefings you will be (co-)writing. You will also participate in policymaker, industry, and NGO meetings, provide follow-up, engage with stakeholders, and generally contribute to positioning our organisation in the debate. You will support the Director of EU Policy to represent the membership of the SASHA Coalition to relevant stakeholders.

Considering the Brussels office for Opportunity Green is currently a one-person operation, there will be a need for you to be helping with practical elements, like taking notes in meetings, providing hands on support during events, etc.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A passion for using their skills to tackle climate change, with an ability to work with their team and stakeholders on building fruitful relationships.

Desirable skills and experience:

We do not expect any candidate to have all the skills listed below but rather we look for transferable skills and potential as well as past experience.

  • Ability to get to grips with technological and policy detail around aviation, shipping and other sectors as necessary.

  • Ease with numbers, technology, science, and applying basic analysis to these.

  • Strong understanding of and experience working on policy, in particular in the EU.

  • Experience in monitoring policy landscapes and having a keen eye for opportunities arising from them.

  • Ability to influence the debate with thoughtful and well-timed interventions on behalf of stakeholders.

  • Ability to digest complex information and summarise the essentials effectively.

  • Solid organisational skills, and a good instinct for prioritising tasks.

  • Active listening skills, negotiation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Ability to think critically, independently and creatively.

Diversity and inclusion:

Diversity and inclusion are important principles at Opportunity Green. We believe that diversity and inclusion make teams stronger and more effective. We are committed to fair and equitable employment practices, and we are striving to ensure that a variety of voices and experiences are included in our organisation. Our commitment to diversity and our parental leave policy are available to view on our website, here.
