Position description

  • Work Location: Bangkok
  • Expected Duration: 3–6 Months

Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP supports sustainable development through technical assistance, capacity-building, and knowledge sharing among 53 member States and 9 associate members.

To enhance efficiency, innovation, and impact, the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS) seeks to embed smart digital solutions and leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline coordination, data analysis, and communication efforts.

Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officers and Chief of CKMS, the intern is expected to support CKMS’s work on the following activities:

  • Assist in identifying and implementing AI-driven tools and digital solutions to improve coordination, communications outputs, and existing workflows within CKMS
  • Work with officers to leverage digital tools (e.g., social media platforms, public website) for effective stakeholder engagement
  • Assist in creating data-driven communication strategies, including the use of AI for content optimization and audience targeting
  • Provide technical assistance to CKMS staff on the use of digital tools and AI applications
  • Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of implemented digital solutions and communication strategies
  • Support the development of engaging multimedia content (e.g., infographics, social media reels, short videos, motion graphics, podcasts) to communicate ESCAP’s impact and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

This internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours/week) under supervision for a minimum of three months and up to six months.

Qualifications

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent)
    • Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree program
  • No professional experience is required, but a background in Digital Communications, Information Technology, Business Technology, or related fields is desirable
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with digital tools and platforms (e.g., MS Office Suite, collaboration tools, social media, multimedia production, and AI applications like Canva, CapCut, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini)
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is an asset

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage

Additional Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution. Interns may need appropriate visas or permits, depending on their citizenship and internship location
