At the Jewish Journal of Greater Boston, we prize great reporting and writing. Come work at our award-winning publication, which is the largest Jewish paper in New England.  

Hours per week:  Full time

Supervisor: Editor or Editor/Publisher

Salary: Negotiable

Skills, experience required for this position:

  • Solid journalism background and demonstrated news writing and reporting ability
  • Familiarity and/or interest in people and the community served by the Journal
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and organizational skills
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, which may include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Demonstrated skill and ability with multi-media platforms
  • A degree in journalism or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Team player
  • Car required

Responsibilities:

  • Develop story ideas in cooperation with the editor
  • Write several news and feature stories for each week 
  • Layout, edit, and proof all content in paper during production weeks 
  • Process and format stories  
  • Write headlines, and edit wire and other stories for publication
  • Take photos for stories
  • Work with production and advertising staff during production weeks to slot breaking news stories, and last minute ads if necessary
  • Copyediting and approval of paginated pages during production cycle
  • Fill in for vacationing editor
