Reports to: Deputy Editor for Audience

The Times-Picayune | Nola.com is seeking a food-loving journalist with a passion for audience engagement, media production and digital analytics to join our team at the largest news organization in Louisiana. We’re looking for a dynamic audience editor and creator who can craft a winning strategy for audience growth and development around our reporting centered on food, dining, bars and restaurants.

This position is based in New Orleans, one of the most well-known and culturally diverse food cities in the world.

There is no shortage of interesting, important, and downright fun stories centered around food in Nola, and we’re looking for someone who can use digital tools, modern storytelling approaches and creativity to engage audiences and create new, digital content that will attract viral viewership and new subscribers.

In this hybrid position, you’ll work with our food and dining reporters and audience team to create effective promotion strategies for Nola.com. You’ll also lead our venture into vertical video and help us explore hosting food-centered events for readers and subscribers.

You should enjoy working in a collaborative newsroom environment, and always be seeking new ways to engage readers while upholding our standards of fairness and accuracy.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage online content strategy for our food and dining team, including collaborating with the audience team on push alerts, homepage management and social media distribution.
  • Help grow engagement and open rates around the Where Nola Eats newsletter.
  • Increase community engagement and lead management for the Where Nola Eats Facebook group, which has more than 100,000 members.
  • Shoot, produce and edit vertical video related to food and dining, entertainment and life in New Orleans.
  • Use data analytics to drive content strategy and lead discussions on new opportunities for audience-driven storytelling.
  • Identify stories with viral, statewide interest, written in a way that’s easy to consume for digital audiences.
  • Collaborate with our marketing and advertising teams on food-focused events with reporters Ian McNulty and Chelsea Shannon.

The ideal candidate should have at least three years of experience in a newsroom or online publication working with food & dining content, newsletter strategy and/or video production. Experience in events management is not required but preferred. The candidate should also be knowledgeable in using Google Trends, digital analytics tools, SEO strategies and social media platforms.

The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com is an equal opportunity employer, committed to recruiting, developing, and promoting a diverse workforce while providing unique opportunities and career paths for our employees. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package that includes medical, vision and dental insurance, short term disability, long term disability and a 401K plan.
