JTA is the definitive global news source covering Jewish stories and issues worldwide. For more than a century, we’ve been providing accurate, engaging reporting on news and issues affecting the Jewish people and their communities in the United States, Israel and around the globe.

We’re seeking a Breaking News Reporter who excels at spotting newsworthy developments and who can quickly transform them into clear, concise updates for our audience. This role focuses on rapid-fire news briefs and smart aggregation, requiring someone who can identify compelling Jewish angles across a wide range of stories – from breaking news to cultural moments – and deliver them to readers quickly and accurately. The reporter will also collaborate with our news editor on building an engaging daily newsletter that contextualizes our coverage for our audience.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

• Monitor traditional news sources along with social platforms for emerging Jewish stories and conversations

• Write short, sharp, news briefs on tight deadlines

• Aggregate news from multiple sources into cohesive, well-structured briefs

• Surface interesting stories from across Jewish communities that might otherwise be missed

• Identify key details from longer stories that matter most to our readers

• Update existing stories as developments occur

• Maintain high standards of accuracy and objectivity while working at a fast pace

• Collaborate with our news editor on JTA’s daily newsletter 

Required Qualifications:

• Sharp news judgment: ability to quickly identify what’s newsworthy for our audience

• Excellence in writing tight, clear, clean copy on deadline

• Strong skills in story aggregation and attribution

• Knowledge of Jewish communities, issues and institutions

• Detail-oriented with strong fact-checking instincts

• Comfort with high-volume news production

• Ability to find stories across a large variety of platforms
