Terms of Reference (ToR) for internal Communication Course

1. Introduction

Peace Track Initiative was founded in 2015 to support the peace process in Yemen. (PTI) is dedicated to promoting sustainable peace through inclusive dialogue, strategic communication, and grassroots engagement. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our impact and reach, we are planning to hire a consultant to improve and develop communication skills within the organization. This document outlines the Terms of Reference for a comprehensive Communication Course that specifically aims to enhance communication skills within the team. The course will focus on speaking and negotiation skills, crucial for effective internal communications.

2. Course Objectives

  • To improve team communication and collaboration.
  • Improve Cross-programms Collaboration
  • To develop effective speaking and presentation skills.
  • To strengthen negotiation skills for better outcomes in various interactions.

3. Target Audience

  • Team members across all levels within the organization.
  • Managers and team leaders require enhanced communication skills.

4. Course Structure and Content

Module 1: Fundamentals of Effective Communication

  • Principles of effective communication.
  • Understanding communication styles.
  • Active listening and feedback techniques.
  • Overcoming communication barriers.
  • Cultural awareness in communication.
  • Non-verbal communication cues.

Module 2: Effective communication in virtual teams.

  • Building trust and rapport within the team.
  • Strategies for effective team meetings.
  • Conflict resolution and management.

  • Collaborative decision-making processes.

Module 3: Speaking Skills

  • Public speaking techniques and overcoming anxiety.
  • Structuring speeches and presentations.

Module 4: Negotiation Skills

  • Fundamentals of negotiation.
  • Preparing for negotiations.
  • Strategies and tactics for successful negotiations.

5. Methodology

  • Interactive lectures and presentations.
  • Group discussions and team-building exercises.

6. Duration and Schedule

  • The course will be delivered over 4 days.
  • Each module will be covered in one day with a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, the session should not be more than 2 hours and a half.

  • Presentation slides and handouts.
  • Final Narrative Report.
  • Evaluation and feedback forms.

8. Diversity and Inclusion

  • Ensure the course content includes training on cultural, sensitivity, and inclusive communication practices.
  • Address the importance of diversity ( political, geographical … etc.) in communication and how to effectively communicate in diverse teams.

9. Evaluation and Certification

  • Participants will be evaluated through practical exercises and assessments.
  • Feedback will be provided throughout the course.

10. Facilitators

  • Experienced trainers with expertise in communication, public speaking, and negotiation.
  • Guest speakers from relevant fields to provide insights and real-world experiences.
