Position description

The Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications from nationally prominent scholars at the advanced Associate or Full Professor level to fill the Daniel Wallace Chair in Civic Government with the appointment to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year, pending budgetary approval. We seek candidates with distinguished records of research, teaching, and mentorship who can provide leadership in the Department and the broader university community.

We welcome applicants from all subfields, methodological traditions, and regional areas whose work engages with the theme of civic government, broadly understood. All scholars who meet the above requirement and whose work contributes to understanding democratic governance or state-society relations within or across local, national, or international levels are encouraged to apply.

The Political Science Department at the University of Pittsburgh has faculty members with vibrant and varied research agendas. It has long fostered collegiality and a culture of collaboration among faculty and graduate students. The Department benefits from numerous synergies with other units on campus, including the University Center for International Studies, a world-renowned, multidisciplinary institute housing centers for area studies and for topical specializations in international studies, and the School of Public and International Affairs, a public administration and public policy school emphasizing international relations and political development.
