Opportunity:
The
Connecticut Mirror (www.CTMirror.org) is a nonprofit, non-partisan local online journalism success story with
huge momentum and ambitious growth goals. Founded in 2009, CT Mirror covers
public policy, government, and politics in Connecticut. Our 26-person
full-time staff includes 21 journalists and five business team members.
We have an
immediate opening for an Events and Marketing Coordinator who will support our
events strategy and marketing activities. The focus of the position will
be executing all aspects of CT Mirror events, including live journalism and
donor events, promoting CT Mirror to drive event attendance and engage new
readers, performing all administrative tasks related to paid advertising that
runs on CT Mirror, and other miscellaneous operational administrative tasks.
This
full-time position reports to the Director of Revenue and is based in our
Hartford, CT. newsroom. The selected candidate will be in the office at least
three days a week. It is the ideal position for an early career candidate
interested in working on the business side of journalism.
Job Responsibilities:
Events:
- Research event venues, caterers
and other vendors. - Maintain event calendar.
- Oversee guest services.
- Create versions of graphics/house
ads for event promotion. - Promote events (email
invitations, house and newsletter ads, social media, on-site “calls to
action,” and off-site digital advertising). - Manage partner publicity (e.g., a
library notifying its email subscribers and social followers). - Coordinate technology (e.g., work
with livestream vendor, upload final recording onto site). - Add registrations to mail
system/database. - Manage “day of” event activities.
- Track and facilitate sponsorship
activation.

Support periodic board
and staff events.
Marketing:
- Post ads to social media
platforms. - Generate advertising purchase
orders. - Create versions of ads for
distribution to social media platforms, publishers, and ad networks.

Track marketing spending
and advertising performance data.
Advertising on CT Mirror:
- Generate advertising insertion
orders and invoices. - Upload advertising into our ad
server system.

Generate metrics reports
for advertising clients.
Other Administrative Functions:
- Answer the phone.
- Manage employee expense
reimbursement process (cross-checking that we have proper receipts). - Manage swag distribution.

Scheduling for Publisher
and Director of Revenue.
Required Qualities:
- Strong writing and project
management skills. - Strong interest in journalism.
- Willingness to learn, a burning
curiosity, an instinct to innovate, and a hunger to work in a fast-paced
environment. - Natural collaborator and
tenacious self-starter.

Our Commitment to You:
- Annual salary of $50,000 to
