International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS)

Position description

ICARS is an independent, self-governing international organisation established by the Danish Government to support low- and middle-income countries in developing evidence-based and context-appropriate solutions to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Working across the One Health spectrum, ICARS collaborates with governments, research institutions and global organisations to bridge research, policy and implementation.

ICARS has rapidly established itself as a trusted international actor in the global AMR landscape. As the organisation enters a new phase of consolidation and international expansion, we are now seeking an Executive Director to provide strategic direction, strengthen ICARS’ global position and lead a highly specialised international team.

As Executive Director, you will have overall responsibility for ICARS’ strategic, organisational and external leadership. In close cooperation with the Board of Directors, you will translate the organisation’s mission into a clear strategy and ensure continued delivery of high-quality, evidence-based results. You will represent ICARS internationally and act as the organisation’s most senior ambassador towards governments, multilateral organisations, donors and strategic partners. Internally, you will lead and develop an inclusive, high-performing organisation with a strong focus on collaboration, governance and financial sustainability.

The ideal candidate has a strong background from international organisations, global health, development cooperation or research-based environments. You bring solid leadership experience, a deep understanding of AMR and One Health, and a proven ability to build partnerships, secure funding and navigate complex international contexts. Your leadership style is inclusive, credible and inspiring, and you communicate with clarity and authority across cultures and professional domains.

The position is based in Denmark. Relocation is required for candidates not currently residing in Denmark.
