The Observer-Reporter and Herald-Standard, daily newspapers with a combined circulation of 25,000, have an immediate opening for a full-time reporter to join our newsroom.

The successful candidate for this general assignment role will be a curious self-starter with a passion for community news, a knack for storytelling and a solid background in multimedia.

Staffed by award-winning journalists, the newsrooms for the Observer-Reporter and Herald-Standard operate as one, cohesively covering Washington, Fayette and Greene counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania. We’re proud to have a team of writers and editors who are dedicated to providing coverage that informs and engages readers about what’s going on in their communities.

The person selected for this role will be responsible for covering a wide array of deadline-driven topics, including government meetings, court proceedings and breaking news. There are also opportunities to produce more in-depth feature stories and to be involved in long-term projects.

Prior reporting experience is preferred, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is required, as are a valid driver’s license and reliable mode of transportation. New college graduates are encouraged to apply.

Our company offers a comprehensive benefits package and a salary commensurate with experience.

To apply, email a resume and clips, and tell us why you’d like to join our team. The information can be sent to Executive Editor Liz Rogers, [email protected] and Managing Editor Jennifer Garofalo, [email protected].
