Scope of the work:

Under the supervision of the Child Protection Specialist (GBViE), the Consultant will work in close coordination with other experts within the UNICEF Child Protection Programme in Italy. Key responsibilities of the GBV and CS Consultant will include:

  • Develop and roll out capacity-building activities on GBV risk mitigation and child safeguarding targeting UNICEF personnel and partners.
  • Support the development and roll-out of capacity-building activities on GBV risk mitigation and child safeguarding targeting the Ministry of Interior decentralized personnel, managing entities, and other key stakeholders within the reception system.
  • Provide technical guidance on GBV prevention work with institutional partners, with a focus on adolescent girls.

Work location: Home-based in Italy with a possibility of travels within Italy

To apply:

Applicants are invited to: 

  1. Complete their UNICEF profile;

Payment schedule: The consultant will be paid based on satisfactory and timely submission of deliverables.

Duration: 45 days during 7 months November 2024– June 2025

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • An Advanced Degree is required in gender, migration, international development, law, human rights studies or another related social science field;
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in gender-based violence prevention, risk mitigation and response programming and/or women and girls empowerment programming;
  • Proven experience in conducting trainings and developing training packages;
  • Familiarity with the GBV system in Italy;
  • Experience in working with migrants and refugees;
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills;  
  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Italian.

Desirable:

  • Experience with UNICEF or other UN agencies strategic planning and programming
  • Familiarity with CP standards.

Skills:

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills;   
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots organizations, youth organizations, and international NGOs;

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
