Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Human Resources Specialist for our operations in Uganda.

The role has a country focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines in Uganda.

About the job

The HR Specialist supports the HR & Admin Manager in providing HR advice, coordination and management to the HR teams in the country as well as to senior management.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Drive and support recruitment and selection activities ensuring compliance with recruitment process.
  • Support the implementation of retention strategies and initiatives.
  • Ensure proper onboarding process by availing of tools and templates to managers and staff.
  • Support staff development activities including promoting the DRC Learning Catalogue.
  • Proactively respond to and manage performance counselling with a focus on building manager competency and ensuring that documentation is kept.
  • Lead the performance management process
  • Define and review salary structure in partnership with the Senior Management team and coordinate annual compensation review process and compensation adjustments
  • Lead people well-being initiatives.
  • Ensure maintenance and communication of staff insurance, liaising with service provider on awareness sessions and monitoring service leave agreement.
  • Provide guidance on available staff welfare resources for expatriates and national staff.
  • Act as an impartial mediator in disciplinary procedures and ensure it is administered in an equitable and fair manner and meets all legal and labour regulations and requirements
  • Ensure proper application of ERP HR processes in the country.
  • Ensure quality and compliance of HR data and provide reports and data analytics to improve performance in the country.
  • Ensure staff are aware of Staff Human Resources Handbooks as necessary through training and regular guidance

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a minimum of 3 years’ working experience in Human Resources with at least 2 years in Senior human resources management role in an INGO. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge/experience of Human Resources Management principles, concepts & processes
  • Extensive knowledge on local labour law
  • Excellent skills in handling and advising on complex people management issues
  • Experience in developing Human Resources strategies and policies, and driving implementation
  • Experience using an online system for recruitments
  • Full professional proficiency in English

Contract length: 1 year

Band: G Non-Management

Designation of Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
